Change allows you to become who you want to be and to live the life you want to live. Without change, your experiences are the same, which leads to dissatisfaction, boredom, and sometimes depression. I will make a bold statement now. To know how to change life in a long-lasting and satisfying way, you will have to stop believing the illusions.
Let me explain what I mean.
I want this post to be useful and beneficial to you and me. That said, I have added affiliate links to this article and would love it if you decide to use them. 😘
READING TIME: 5 Mins. Or JUMP AND SKIM:
noun: an instance of a wrong or misinterpreted perception of a sensory experience.
“stripes embellish the surface to create the illusion of various wood-grain textures”
a deceptive appearance or impression.
“the illusion of family togetherness”
a false idea or belief.
noun: illusion; plural noun: illusions
“he had no illusions about the trouble she was in”Oxford Languages
An illusion is an idea or belief that is not true.
Keep that in mind while we look at the meaning of perception and perspective.
The Meaning Of Perceptions
1. the ability to see, hear or become aware of something through the senses.
“the normal limits to human perception”
2. the way in which something is regarded, understood or interpreted.
“Hollywood’s perception of the tastes of the American public”Oxford Languages
Your perception is SO different depending on who you are, what you have experienced (country, culture, society, media , family, friends, work colleagues etc..) and the programs you now hold because of these different experiences. Your perception is filtered through all of these.
Stay with me, this is all going somewhere.
The Meaning Of Perspective
1. the art of representing three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other.
“the theory and practice of perspective”
2. a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view.
“most guidebook history is written from the editor’s perspective”Oxford Languages
Forget the first definition, that’s not relevant to what I’m writing about.
Your point of view is your perspective.
Bringing illusion, perception and perspective together now, I can fully explain the bold statement I made in the introduction:
“To know how to change life in a long lasting and satisfying way, you will have to stop believing the illusions.”
That Bold Statement
The mind is a complex organ and I don’t claim to know how it works. Nonetheless, I have direct experience to draw on to explain how I’ve made positive changes in my life.
Let’s take a couple of illusions that I previously held in my mind:
Belief: “I can’t stop smoking, it’s impossible.”
Idea: “Once a smoker, always a smoker.”
I perceived the above on hearing the idea from people and the media and I formed the belief in my subconscious mind.
SIDE NOTE: I’m not saying that my (or your) beliefs or ideas are not real. (Mine were very real to me). Illusion does not mean it is not real for you. It means your illusion can be changed.
That illusion was lodged deep in my subconscious and played (unknowingly to me) in the background of my life. And it prevented me from stopping smoking for a long time.
That us until….I stopped believing that illusion. After I stopped believing the illusion, I perceived my smoking differently and my point of view (perspective) changed. (I no longer believed that it was impossible to stop smoking or that once a smoker, always a smoker).
How To Stop Believing The Illusions
Once I became aware of the illusion (negative idea/ limiting belief) that I held I removed it and replaced it with positive beliefs and ideas that supported my desire to stop smoking.
I literally stopped believing that illusion and it RADICALLY changed my life. Not only did I stop smoking after many previous unsuccessful attempts but it was a catalyst to making lots of other changes.
To remove and replace the old limiting beliefs, ideas and thoughts I did two things:
- I entered into a deep, relaxed state of mind.
- And listened to new, beneficial beliefs or positive affirmations that supported the change I wanted to make.
You can do this yourself by:
- Learning how to get into the optimal state of mind required.
- Create your own audio to listen to: write out your new affirmations and statements. Record yourself saying and repeating them.
There are a lot of free resources online and YouTube videos showing you how.
Doing it yourself may take some time as you will need to learn and practice how to get into the right state of mind plus create your own audios.
If you want a fast and much easier way: USE a mind machine that does the work for you. All you have to do is choose your specific program to listen to and lay back.

Recap With Final Thoughts...
Perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses.
Why is this important for personal growth and building self-worth?
Your perceptions are interpreted through your senses (see, hear, touch, taste, smell), which are created in your mind. By changing your perceptions, you change your perspective.
In other words.
Change your PERCEPTION and you can change your PERSPECTIVE (your way of seeing things, your point of view).
Change your PERCEPTION AND YOU CAN CHANGE ALMOST ANYTHING, (including but not limited to):
- Increase self-worth
- Build up self-esteem
- Stop procrastinating
- Stop the negative internal chatter
- Confidence to try new things
- Eliminate unhealthy habits
Now you know how to change your illusions and perspective, you know how to change life.
